It has recently been voted the strongest hotel brand in the world. But the origin of this brand has an interesting story. Jamsetji Tata, the founding father of the Tata Group, avenged his humiliation from the British by opening this hotel.

UK based brand valuation consultancy ‘Brand Finance‘ has released its annual ‘Hotel 50 2021’ report. During this report, this hotel brand of the Tata group has been termed as the ‘world’s strongest hotel brand’. The most unique thing is that the Englishman from whom this hotel was inspired to take revenge, today he has described it as the strongest brand in the world.

Talking about the ‘Taj’ brand, David Hague, CEO, Brand Finance, says that the legacy of Taj Hotels goes back almost 100 years. Despite the challenges of the current pandemic, it stands as the custodian of Indian hospitality.

Jamsetji Tata, the founding father of the Tata group, had many dreams for contemporary India. Among them ‘Taj Hotel’ is the only dream which came true in his lifetime. The country’s first Taj Hotel was opened in Mumbai in 1903 before the ‘Gateway of India’.

According to the Tata Group website, Jamsetji Tata was once invited by a distant friend to satisfy him at a famous hotel in Mumbai. But when he reached there with his friend, the hotel owner stopped him outside saying ‘we don’t let Indians in’. This thing pricked Jamsetji Tata.

The heritage of Taj Hotels not only makes it great, but its strong position is also a part of its pride. In the year 2008, when the 26/11 Mumbai attack took place, this hotel also became a witness to it. But then this hotel rebuilt itself. In the tradition of the Taj, not only the guests are taken care of but all its employees are also taken care of.
