Problems still on the new portal
Some time ago the Income Tax Department started a new portal for filing Income Tax Return. Taxpayers and professionals are facing many problems in filing returns on this. Although Infosys, the company that builds and maintains this portal, has overcome many problems, but still some problems have not been resolved.
Taxpayers will get enough time
In such a situation, CBDT is considering to extend the last date of return filing for the taxpayer. Business Standard quoted government sources as saying, “We are identifying the reasons for the delay due to technical issues on the new portal. The announcement of extending the last date will be made in the next day or two. This will give enough time to taxpayers to file returns. We will ease their uneasiness.
14% returns filed so far
For the financial year 2020-21, only 80 lakh Income Tax Returns have been filed so far. This is about 14% of the income tax returns filed till the last date of the financial year 2019-20. CBDT may also release daily figures of Income Tax Returns to be filed on the new portal.
