Hospitality company Oyo has become the second largest hotel group in the country within 18 months of entering the Chinese market. Oyo has around 10,000 hotels of its own brand, reaching 320 cities in China, with around 4,50,000 rooms. The company said in a statement that its reach from second-tier cities has expanded to the sixth-tier city in the Chinese market.
Sam Shih, chief operating officer of the company’s Chinese business, said Oyo Giudian (Hotels) operates like a Chinese company and provides better services to people in the middle income group of the country.
He said that “Every day two lakh people in China rest their heads on Oyo Giudian’s pillow.” The reason for this is its pleasant experience of staying in hotels. ”As the business there is booming, the number of people employed in these hotels has increased to more than one lakh who are of the youth category. Oyo brand hotels are currently operating in more than 800 cities in 24 countries.
